OPP denounces “drone attack” in KP

The National Assembly session opened on Friday amid loud slogans and disruptions from the opposition after reports emerged of an alleged drone strike at a wedding ceremony in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa earlier in the day. Chaired by Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, the session quickly descended into chaos as opposition lawmakers shouted during question hour. The vice president refused to allow any point of order, leading to further outcry. Speaking, PTI leader and former Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser said: "A drone attack took place today during a wedding ceremony," adding that the strike happened exactly when a major peace jirga was taking place in KP, which had just issued a 15-point declaration. Terming the incident as an insult to the province, he said it was an affront to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. "We have previously said that drone strikes in populated areas are unacceptable."

Jamal Kakar, also addressing the House, said that the people of Balochistan were living in "a state of extreme distress" and lamented that all roads had been blocked and mobile signals had been cut. Later, the NA was finally adjourned for an indefinite period. Later, speaking at a press conference, PTI chief Iqbal Afridi revealed that a drone strike had hit his constituency last night. He added that the attack took place at a time when all stakeholders and leaders were present in KP. Afridi said security operations were underway in the tribal districts and demanded the formation of a committee. "There are injured people lying in hospitals; tell us which of them are terrorists," he said. "If even one of them isn’t a terrorist, then what was the point of this drone strike?"

He warned that if no militant presence was established, he would register an FIR against the federal government. "We are soldiers of Imran Khan and we are citizens of this country." he said. "This country is dear to us and we are ready to give our lives for it."

A wedding celebration in Tirah Valley in Khyber district was attacked on Tuesday evening after an explosion was fired from a quadcopter drone, injuring eight people, including children, police said. According to authorities, the incident occurred around 1 a.m. in the Shalobar area of Tirah, where a drone reportedly approached the venue and fired a projectile directly at the gathering. The explosion injured eight people, including several children. The injured were transferred to Peshawar for medical treatment. Police said the drone fled in an unknown direction after the attack. Law enforcement and intelligence services have launched an investigation into the incident. Officials said the Tirah region as a whole hosts a significant presence of militants and intelligence-based operations are carried out in the region from time to time.
