‘May-style response’ if war is imposed, warns COAS

Pakistan remains a peace-loving country, but it will respond decisively to any aggression, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir said on Sunday, citing the armed forces’ response to India during Marka-e-Haq in May as an example of the country’s resolve. Speaking to the media during the presidency following the departure of Jordan’s King Abdullah II, he referred to Quranic verses to draw parallels between historic battles and the spirit with which Pakistani forces operated. Field Marshal Asim says army has taken a step forward "on the path to Allah" and emerged with honor during Marka-e-Haq. He reiterated that Pakistan seeks peace, but any attempt by an enemy to impose war will be met with the same firmness demonstrated earlier this year. Referring again to Quranic guidance, the army chief said Pakistani soldiers were fighting with conviction and determination. He added that the victory achieved in May was granted by Allah, stressing that this success was a divine blessing.
