Former NFL star Antonio Brown faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted of attempted murder with a firearm, a prosecutor said Monday.

Brown was formally arraigned in Miami-Dade Circuit Court via video. His lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, reiterated that Brown had already pleaded not guilty. He was released from jail last week on $25,000 bail and must wear a GPS ankle monitor.

The attempted murder charge against the Super Bowl champion in many cases carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. But Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Cruz said that because Brown was charged with using a gun, he was likely to receive double that sentence because of a gun sentencing enhancement.

The law also provides a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years upon conviction.

Brown, 37, is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security guard after an incident following a celebrity boxing match in Miami in May. Brown allegedly fired two shots at a man he had fought with earlier in the night, according to an arrest warrant.

The alleged victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwambe Nantambu, told investigators one of the bullets grazed his neck.

Eiglarsh said at a previous hearing that the affidavit was incorrect and that Brown used his personal firearm and that the shots were not fired at anyone. Brown previously said on his social media that he defended himself against people who tried to steal his jewelry.

Brown returned to the United States last week from Dubai. The first arrest warrant was issued in June.
