Categorically rejecting the 27th constitutional amendment, Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Tuesday said granting judicial immunity to any individual was against the principles of the Quran and Sunnah.
Speaking at the Lahore Press Club, the JI Emir asserted that the debate surrounding the 26th, 27th, 28th and now the 29th amendments betrayed attempts to disrupt the balance of power between state institutions and the judiciary.
Recalling that the JI had opposed similar amendments in the past, he argued that no individual should be exempt from responsibilities under Islamic or constitutional principles.
