ISLAMABAD:
Leaders of an alliance of opposition parties – Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aeen Pakistan (TTAP) – held a joint protest march in Islamabad on Tuesday, from Parliament to the Supreme Court.
Key opposition figures including Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Asad Qaiser, Aamir Dogar, Azam Swati, Ali Muhammad Khan and others participated in the rally. A large number of workers also joined the protest march.
At the start of the march, police attempted to prevent participants from moving forward, citing security concerns. However, the continued arrival of senior leaders and pressure from workers allowed the rally to continue.
The participants carried banners and placards and chanted slogans demanding the withdrawal of the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments and calling for the true supremacy of the Constitution.
After arriving at the Supreme Court, the opposition leaders spoke in detail to the media.
TTAP leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai said a nationwide black day would be observed on Friday.
He alleged that the 27th Amendment had distorted the spirit of the Constitution and the move was not only unconstitutional but also against Islam.
