Pakistan won the Oman 2025 World Cup snooker team championship, edging out Hong Kong 3-2 in a tense final in Muscat.
President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated the Pakistan national snooker team for winning the Oman 2025 World Cup team snooker championship, hailing the outstanding performance of cueists Mohammad Asif and Asjad Iqbal in the title clash.
In his message, the President praised the duo for their competence, dedication and professionalism, stressing that their commitment had brought honor to the country. He said the team’s remarkable comeback during the tournament had “raised the country’s head high”.
President Zardari prayed for their continued success and expressed hope that the new world champions would secure more international titles for Pakistan.
Pakistan have won the Snooker World Cup team championship after beating Hong Kong 3-2 in a tense final in Muscat, Oman. The match went down to the deciding fifth round, where the national team showed composure to win the title.
The duo of former world champion and current World Masters champion Mohammad Asif and seasoned cueist Asjad Iqbal remained composed and consistent throughout the tournament. Their strong campaign included a 1–3 win over arch-rivals India in the semi-final, which propelled them into the final with momentum.
In the other semi-final, Hong Kong’s Chau Hon Man and Nansen Wan scored a close 3-2 victory over compatriots Hong Kong China-1 to book their place in the championship match.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also congratulated the winning duo, saying the cueists had once again raised the national flag with their performance. He praised their clinical display in the final and acknowledged the efforts of both players and their coach, remarking that “Pakistan is successful in several areas”.
Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) President Alamgir Shaikh termed the victory a milestone for the sport in the country.
