President Donald Trump criticized the New York Giants after the team decided to play aggressive late in the game to go up three points against the Detroit Lions rather than score a field goal to extend their lead to six points.

Instead, Giants quarterback Jameis Winston fumbled and overthrew tight end Theo Johnson. The Lions marched down the field after the turnover on downs and scored the tying field goal. Detroit ultimately won the game 34-27 in overtime on a Jahmyr Gibbs touchdown run.

Trump appeared to echo the sentiments expressed by Malik Nabers, who also criticized the staging but deleted his post about X.

“Why didn’t the New York Football Giants (NFL) throw this Field Goal???” » the president wrote on Truth Social on Monday. “Who would do something like that? It was CRAZY! I watched the end of the game and thought, when they went for the touchdown instead of the 3, ‘That’s weird!!!'”

Nabers expressed his frustration moments after the match. The second-year receiver has been out of action since September with a torn ACL.
