Dame Joanna Lumley has spoken openly about aging and shared a surprising wish about what she wants after she dies.
The beloved actress, 79, said she didn’t want a “memorial service,” explaining that she feels calm thinking about death and often reflects on the passage of time.
Joanna said she had already spoken to her husband Stephen Barlow about her wish, but he kindly told her the final decision would be up to him and his son Jamie.
The New Avengers The actress’s husband reminded her that she wouldn’t be there to see it happen and so they would have to make the choice themselves.
Even then, Joanna reiterated that she would prefer not to have a memorial service.
By speaking to GOOD MORNING magazine, the Sapphire and Steel The star shared lines from writers that brought her comfort, including a poem by Rabindranath Tagore that describes death as a moment of peace.
She said these words helped her accept the natural cycle of life and embrace death.
Joanna recently had a role in the short film My week with Maisyas the story follows Mrs. Foster, a woman preparing for chemotherapy, who strikes up an unexpected friendship with young Maisy Jones, a child battling a serious illness.
Maisy’s brave and positive attitude helped Ms. Foster find gratitude and new strength during this scary time.
Additionally, Dame said the film has a powerful message for anyone affected by cancer and she hopes it will reach a wide audience so people going through difficult treatments can feel understood and supported through her story.
