UAB PLAYERS TAKE HOURS ON FIELD AFTER GRIP INCIDENT LEAVES TWO HOSPITALIZED
“We recognized the seriousness of what happened Saturday morning and very seriously considered not playing the game. It was not an easy decision, but it was only after we knew the injured players were stable and after the coach was able to have a very honest and caring conversation with our team that we felt comfortable with the game, but only if the team wanted to play.”
Interim head coach Alex Mortensen also spoke to the media on Monday and said both injured players have since been released from the hospital.
“I’ve had the opportunity to sit down with our injured players and their families, and they’re OK with me telling you that they’re out of the hospital and recovering. They appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers,” he said.

“It’s been a very tough few days for a lot of players and they have a lot of love for each other – it was very evident. I’m not going to go into detail about our time together and our meetings, but I really love this team and I love the group of guys we have.”
