Shedeur Sanders was ecstatic after earning his first career start for the Cleveland Browns last Sunday, but his postgame press conference sparked vitriol on social media.
Sanders was speaking to a CBS Sports reporter after the 24-10 victory, where he showed his characteristic confidence while discussing his performance.
“It’s amazing, you know, after a week of training. It’s a week of training,” he said, smiling. “So imagine what a full offseason would be like. It gets dangerous. But it’s only one week of practice, so I’m really grateful that everything happened.”

This comment from Sanders was considered arrogant by some X users, including one who said: “This is one of the reasons why a lot of people aren’t very interested in supporting Shedeur.” »
“He talks like his father, without having the resume or skills to back it up. Humility would go a long way,” the user wrote.

Sanders’ father, Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, appeared to catch wind of the talk about his son after the game he attended at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
He cited a separate video of his son’s interview on Twitter, in which he added a bit more context. Shedeur tapped into his faith with a previous response.
“God was the only way I got through it. It was awesome,” Shedeur said. “Two days ago we all had a big talk in the locker room, you know, about God and what our goal is. I’m just grateful. It’s not me, it’s nothing but God’s work. He’s the only one that allows me to keep playing, to keep going, to keep doing this. There’s a lot of people who aren’t in big situations who, you know, don’t have it all. But you have to lean on him, you have to rely on him. on him for everything.”
“Coach Prime” simply wrote, “Thank you Jesus,” after watching his son go 11 of 20 for 209 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Shedeur said he entered the match without feeling any nerves, noting that it was hard work during the week that allowed him to play freely.
“Like I said, before going into the match, I wasn’t nervous. I didn’t feel anything,” he explained. “You remember I talked yesterday, I did as much work as I could during the week, so Sundays would be fun. That’s why I was just excited. I love the way the offensive line welcomed me when I came into this role and they didn’t understand anything but business. I’m just grateful to be here, grateful to get the win for the Browns.
“My fathers here, my mother is here, all my people are here. You see all the [No.] 12 jerseys there. It’s incredible. I’m just grateful.”
The father-son duo shared a wholesome moment before the Browns took the field, where the elder Sanders was grinning from ear to ear for his son.

It was quite a start for Sanders, even though he’s not new to comments coming from outside the Browns facility.
If Sanders continues to start for the Browns, his performances — and his comments before and after games — will be under the same big microscope they’ve been under since he was in Colorado, let alone the NFL.
