A terrorist attack on a police checkpoint in Hangu on Wednesday evening resulted in the martyrdom of three police officers and left two injured.
Crossfire broke out at the Qazi Talab checkpoint on Shahu Road, police and local officials reported.
According to police, militants targeted the Qazi Talab post, provoking a strong reaction from police officers stationed there. District Police Officer (DPO) Khan Zeb Khan said the personnel fought bravely.
The attackers opened heavy fire, causing prolonged crossfire. Additional police units then arrived at the scene, with the operation directly supervised by the DPO.
Authorities confirmed that three officers were martyred in the incident, including LHC Waheed Shah and Constable Abdul Samad, while another officer also lost his life.
Two police officers were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Security forces are continuing their operations to search for the attack.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attack on a check post in Hangu. The Minister of the Interior paid tribute to the three police officers who were martyred during the attack and expressed his sincere sympathy and condolences to their families.
Naqvi said that the sacrifices of the martyred officers will not go in vain and these sacrifices are a clear proof of Pakistan’s unwavering resolve in the war against terrorism.
He said that Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police had made immense sacrifices in the war against terrorism and KP Police was at the forefront. The Interior Minister said the officers who sacrificed their lives for the country are the pride of the nation.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the attack and expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives in a statement issued by the KP Governor’s Press Secretary’s Office.
He paid tribute to the three police officers who were martyred during the confrontation, recognizing their courage and service. The governor also offered prayers for the rising ranks of martyrs and prayed for the patience and strength of the bereaved families following the tragedy.
Governor Kundi conveyed his best wishes for the speedy recovery of the police officers injured in the attack. Highlighting the resilience and commitment of the provincial police, he said, “Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police is bravely confronting the terrorists.” Reaffirming the government’s determination, he added: “The sacrifices of our police martyrs will not be in vain.”
