ISLAMABAD:

Awaam Party Pakistan (APP) Chairman Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday criticized the government, saying the existing regime had failed in governance and corruption control, while also raising concerns over the handling of the recent IMF report.

Addressing a press conference in the federal capital alongside party leader Miftah Ismail, Abbasi said the IMF report highlighted several issues affecting the country’s economy, including issues regarding the judiciary, which the government was allegedly hiding from the public.

“This is basically a summary of the points we have been raising for a long time. The IMF report does not contain anything new,” Abbasi remarked. “The government has failed to improve governance or control corruption. We must take the IMF’s findings seriously.”

Abbasi questioned why the government delayed releasing the report to the public. He also highlighted the country’s economic challenges, saying unemployment has reached an all-time high of 7.1 percent, prompting many young Pakistanis to seek opportunities abroad.
