- Two major PC makers warn of memory-related price increases
- Maingear CEO tells us to consider buying now because ‘RAM prices will continue to rise’
- CyberPowerPC says prices of its gaming PCs will increase from December 7 due to rising RAM prices
If you want more proof that Black Friday might be the best time to buy a new PC, then we just got a few more nuggets (among other recent warnings).
It’s not just about new PCs, but more specifically the sharp increase in the price of memory – so system RAM has suddenly become very expensive, as is storage (another type of memory, of course). The combined rise in the cost of RAM and SSDs is putting pressure on the price of new desktop computers incorporating these components. (GPUs are also another casualty, as these cards use video RAM, compounding the difficulties for PC makers).
The first nugget comes from Wccftech interviews PC maker Maingear CEO Wallace Santos, asking what advice he would give to consumers building or upgrading a PC, given the possibility analysts have raised that memory shortages could persist through 2027.
Santos observed: “We have already seen DRAM prices skyrocket due to shortages and we are delaying these price changes for our customers as long as possible. For consumers looking to get a new PC or upgrade their current system’s GPU, SSD, or RAM, they should consider buying now and looking for deals that haven’t yet seen a price increase.
In addition to this, VideoCardz reported that CyberPowerPC, another pre-built computer vendor, announced on
CyberPowerPC claims that RAM prices have jumped 500% and SSD prices have doubled, and that this obviously has a direct impact on the cost of its gaming PCs, an effect that has been felt since the beginning of October.

Analysis: RAM increases
CyberPowerPC is correct when it notes that in October RAM prices really spiked, after several months of warnings that this was going to happen. Although no one predicted the magnitude of these increases (which actually started in late September, from what I’ve seen, but that’s really nitpicking – the bottom line is that this is a recent development).
Has the price of memory increased sixfold over the last two months? Well no, not for consumers anyway. The cost of RAM kits has doubled or, in the worst case, almost tripled – which is of course still a nightmarish increase.
So if you’re thinking about buying a new PC, a Black Friday deal is probably your best option for a while. Because firstly, you’ll probably be able to find some sort of discount, and secondly, you’ll get it before those price increases really start to bite.
As Maingear’s CEO points out, the PCs it currently sells have been shielded from rising prices because the components were purchased some time ago. But that won’t be the case for much longer, and Santos makes it clear that the situation will get worse, saying: “I expect prices to continue to rise and we will eventually have to increase our delivery times as inventory and allocation become limited.” »
Even though CyberPowerPC talks about “temporary” price increases, don’t let that give you the impression that they will be short-lived – it just means that they won’t be permanent. As for how These increases might be temporary, but the general buzz suggests that 2026 will be a bad year for memory prices, and perhaps we could see a real RAM drought.
Attach the usual caveat about not having a crystal ball, but we’re getting to the point where it’s hard to believe that this memory shortage won’t be a full-blown crisis for much, if not all, of the next year, and perhaps into 2027. And if you look at PC components, it’s a little too late for RAM, but a Black Friday deal on an SSD or especially a graphics card could also be a smart move. We also have the best Black Friday laptop deals if you want to go that route as well.
