ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court’s Sharia Court of Appeal is expected to consider a petition claiming that the existing democratic system is contrary to Islam.
A five-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed will hear the case on December 5. The court also includes Justices Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Shakeel Ahmed, while Islamic scholars Dr Khalid Masood and Dr Qibla Ayaz are ad hoc members.
The Sharia Appeals Chamber was reconstituted after almost a year and a half. The original petition – challenging the electoral system as un-Islamic – was filed 36 years ago.
