Natalia Dyer, known for her role as Nancy Wheeler in Stranger Thingsaddresses a big mistake she made in the season finale.
At the end of season four, the town of Hawkins had giant Upside Down rifts open in the ground across the town, but Nancy and her brother Mike (Finn Wolfhard) do not tell the rest of their family.
In the new season, fans witness the aftermath of forgetting his parents, when a Demogorgon attacks them, putting his parents, mom Karen (Cara Buono) and dad Ted (Joe Chrest) in critical condition in the hospital and their little sister Holly (Nell Fisher) kidnapped by Vecna.
In an interview with VarietyDyer revealed the reason why Nancy kept her parents in the dark.
“It was actually a conversation with the Duffers,” Dyer said. “In this discovery of what has happened since then, what have we told people? What have we explained?”
She added: “There’s this military presence everywhere, and I think there’s this feeling, especially in Nancy, of wanting to protect. I think in this scenario, especially with her family, sometimes it feels like not saying it is protecting.”
Dyer explained that since the incident, Nancy has felt “a lot of guilt” and views the loss as “a failure” despite her efforts to do the right thing.
However, she also revealed the positive impact it has on the Wheelers, saying, “I think it’s a bonding moment for the Wheelers as well. I think it’s a galvanizing moment for what they have ahead of them.”
In addition to Wolfhard, Buono, Crest and Fisher, Dyer also stars alongside her boyfriend Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), who is also her love interest on the show, and Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Nancy’s ex-boyfriend.
Stranger Things season five, volume one, is now streaming on Netflix.
