- We Are Rewind released a Duran Duran-themed Walkman
- Portable Cassette Player Pays Tribute to 25th Anniversary of Pop Trash Album
- Priced at $199 / £149 (around AU$299) – and I’ll dance in fire for it
I understand. I’m the perfect demographic – call it The reflex or my analog-loving nature, but I will Dance in the fire to get your hands on this cassette player.
As a committed Durandy (yes, that’s the term I prefer; “Durannie” sounds so much older), I also love a cassette Walkman – just see my love letters to FiiO’s cute option and even the Elvis-themed Walkman from We Are Rewind from earlier this year.
And this one will definitely get me Amazing Elvis once again, as it celebrates the 25th anniversary of Trash popan album that was always playing in large quantities in my five-disc CD player (why yes, right next to my Lava lamp…) and you even get a reissue of the album on cassette with your purchase, as well as a pencil – of course you get a pencil.
I can’t wait to listen to Simon Le Bon’s incredible range and Roger Taylor’s brash drum beats on this Walkman – it feels like it’s positively screaming “Why-yyy, aren’t you using me?”
We Are Rewind doesn’t say what kind of sparkly jewels this player is encrusted with somehow (it’s probably not diamonds, guys, it’s Trash pop) but in the same way that wild boys always shine, so does this player…
Please don’t say a prayer for me now, save it until the morning after you manage to get your hands on that Walkman, okay? Of all the Walkmans in all the gin joints in the world Planet Earththis is the one I want.
Does the August moon give way to a rising cloud of dust?
No, it’s just a very Glittering Walkman!
Do you just want to know something about it? Because for me, the aesthetics are more than enough to make my poor Gen heart. X wants it. Every time I imagine Rio dancing on the sand, I now imagine him holding that Walkman, with the cool sea breeze catching his earphone wires – just like that river winding through a dusty land.
But for all those who are reading this missive thinking Is there anything I should know?We Are Rewind (a company that specializes in this sort of thing; just look at the company’s modern boombox to get started) tells me that the Duran Duran Walkman has “a unique headphone amplifier designed for cassette playback.”
You also get Bluetooth connectivity to connect it to the best Bluetooth speakers or headphones you can find, plus a rechargeable battery (forget those nasty AAs) that should last 12 hours before needing a boost of juice.
I won’t cry about yesterday, but I love digging out my old cassette collection – a reminder of Ordinary world Sometimes I feel like I’ve lost.
How much? Of course: it’s available from today, priced at $199 / £149 (that’s about AU$299) and for that price, wild boys will never lose it…
