- Scarlett Johansson reportedly in talks to appear in The Batman Part II
- Former Marvel star looking to play major role in sequel
- Fans have their say on who she should play
Scarlett Johansson is set to play a major role in The Batman Part IIaccording to reports.
As initially reported by Nexus Point News, then corroborated by Deadline and Variety, Johansson is reportedly set to become the first big addition to the sequel’s cast. It’s unclear who the star will play, but Nexus suggested that Johansson’s character could be a love interest for the titular vigilante, who will once again be played by Robert Pattinson.
If Johansson commits, she will join other returning faces from The Batmanincluding Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell. However, Variety reported that Zoe Kravitz was unable to reprise her role as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the DC comic book film, which is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
The cameras should start rolling The Batman 2 at the beginning of 2026, new casting announcements are therefore to be expected at this pre-production stage. Perhaps we will then know if one of the Dark Knight’s most iconic allies will also be part of the debates in the near future.
Who could Scarlett Johansson play in The Batman Part II?
Possible spoilers follow for The Batman Part II.
As I mentioned, the identity of Johansson’s character has not yet been revealed.
Nonetheless, die-hard DC fans have been quick to cast the former Marvel superstar as various Batman-adjacent people since the news broke. Indeed, discussions on r/DC_Cinematic, r/DCULeaks, and ResetEra are full of suggestions from intrigued users, while other social media platforms like X/Twitter are full of similar theories.
So who are the potential pioneers? Many fans immediately suggested that Johansson would fit the bill as classic villain/anti-she Pamela Isley/Poison Ivy. However, Matt Reeves’ Bat-Verse does not deal with the supernatural and/or fantastical side of the Caped Crusader lore. Unless big changes are made to the character’s origins and powers, it is very unlikely that “ScarJo” will play Ivy.
Other notable characters in the setting include Gotham City reporter Vicky Vale and Talia ah Ghul, the latter of whom is not only an occasional Batman love interest, but also a spoiler! – the mother of his son Damian Wayne. In the comics, he becomes the fifth iteration of Robin, and with rumors online that Robin could be part of the proceedings, Johansson being cast as Talia isn’t such a big move to make.
But the name most on everyone’s lips is Andrea Beaumont. First appeared in a 1994 animated film Batman: the mask of fantasyBeaumont is first introduced as Bruce Wayne’s fiancée. As the story progresses, it is soon revealed that she has her own secret identity in the form of a supervillain called Phantasm.
Given how entrenched Reeves’ Bat-Verse is, Phantasm would be more than a suitable antagonist for The Batman 2. Beaumont’s romantic association with Wayne also means she would be a great fit from a love interest perspective.
Are we about to see a live-action version Mask of FantasySO? That would be cool, but it would put a damper on the rumors that The Batman Part II will feature one of the newest additions to the superhero’s rogues gallery in Court of Owls. I guess we’ll know more once casting announcements are made and/or filming begins.
