Schitt Audio has launched an updated version of its Magni Unity headphone amplifier, featuring the company’s new Mesh DAC board to offer what it calls “a complete single-box amp/DAC solution.”
The extremely small modular system is designed to deliver similar performance to the company’s flagship DACs for a considerably lower price: the Magni Unity with Mesh DAC is priced at $199 in black, or $209 if you want it in silver. International availability and pricing have not yet been confirmed.
The Magni Unity is still available without the DAC at the same price as before, $119/$129.
Schitt Audio Magni Unity with Mesh DAC: Key Features
The Magni Unity delivers 2.5W of power into 32 ohms and has three gain settings to cover most headphone types. It has “extremely low” background noise – Schitt says the noise is inaudible “on all headphones and IEMs.”
If you opt for the Mesh DAC version of the Magni Unity, it features the same “megacomboburrito” digital crossover as Schitt’s more expensive DACs, allowing you to have a high-end desktop DAC and amp setup without the separate units that usually entail, so it fits in a very small space: 5 inches by 3.5 inches.
Schitt is quite irreverent with his product descriptions, saying that the Unity’s distortion is “immeasurable at normal listening levels; 1000 times less than the typical headphones you use” and noting that even if the amp gets “moderately hot” with a DAC card “it’s no big deal, we’ve made much hotter stuff that lasts well beyond the warranty.”
