NFL News: Colts’ Daniel Jones suffers Achilles injury

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones left Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars after suffering a gruesome lower leg injury while dropping back to pass.

Jones, already playing with a broken left fibula, fell to the ground and grabbed his right Achilles. As coaches came out to check on him, Jones slammed his helmet in frustration. He was able to carefully walk to the locker room under his own power.

He was ruled out for the rest of the game with an Achilles tendon injury, the team said.

Colts quarterback Riley Leonard entered the game.

The Colts were contending for the AFC South division as Jones put together an MVP-type season to get the team there. Both teams were tied for the division lead and Sunday’s game was becoming important for the playoff race.

Jones totaled 3,041 passing yards and 19 touchdowns with Indianapolis at 8-4 this season. The injury disrupts Jones’ quest for an MVP and comeback player of the year award.

He joined the Colts as a free agent after finishing the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings. The New York Giants released him midway through the year, deciding to embark on a new adventure with a new quarterback.

Jones totaled 14,582 passing yards, 70 touchdown passes and 47 interceptions in 70 games with the Giants.
