He added: “In recent years, I have experienced the loss of several close friends in my personal life, and in my professional life I have witnessed the retirement or death of many senior colleagues whom I deeply respect. These accumulated events made me reflect on the “time I have left as a creator”.
I would like to announce that I will be leaving Bandai Namco at the end of 2025. As the TEKKEN series celebrates its 30th anniversary – a significant milestone for a project to which I have devoted much of my life – I thought it was the most appropriate time to conclude a chapter. Harada’s announcement comes shortly after the death of Tomonobu Itagaki, creator of Dead or alive and restarted it Ninja Gaiden series, with whom he shared a friendly but competitive rivalry.
However, it seems that Harada had been planning to leave for several years, stating: “Over the past four or five years, I gradually handed over all of my responsibilities, as well as the stories and world-building that I oversaw, to the team, bringing me to today. »
In true Harada fashion, the man does not leave without fanfare. He put together an hour-long 30th anniversary mix called “TEKKEN: A 30-Year Journey – Harada’s Final Mix,” which you can listen to on his SoundCloud page.
I have devoted hundreds of hours to Tekken series since I was little, greatly enjoying most of the games in the series, including the more controversial entries like Tekken 4 And Tekken Tag 2 Tournament.
Among all the best fighting games, Tekken is the series that sits at the top of the list for me thanks to its iconic characters, deep 3D movement systems, satisfying juggling combos, and some of the best music in the business.
Personally, I will greatly miss Harada and his influence on the industry, and I hope the series, including Tekken 8, will be in good hands in the future. And of course, I wish Harada all the best in his future endeavors.
