- AMD’s Ryzen 9850X3D leaked again
- This time there is photographic evidence of the processor on a BIOS screen.
- With all the talk surrounding this Ryzen 9800X3D refresh, it seems likely that it will arrive soon, perhaps with a launch at CES 2026.
AMD’s rumored refresh of its top gaming CPU, the Ryzen 9800X3D, has been leaked again as this chip has been a regular among CPUs of late.
It’s the Ryzen 9850X3D, and Wccftech reports that HXL, a well-known X hardware leaker, has posted a photo of an Asus BIOS screen that shows the processor as an 8-core chip with a clock speed of 5.3 GHz. It runs on an Asus B850 motherboard.
In theory, we’re seeing a chip engineering sample put to the test, but as with any leak, we need to be cautious – although the photographic evidence presented here is more substantial than previous whispers (with the possible exception of one apparent leak, when a page for the Ryzen 9850X3D was accidentally and briefly posted on AMD’s official website in France before being removed).
No specification details were provided in this error on the French Team Red site, but we’ve already had several rumors all insisting the same thing: that the Ryzen 9850X3D will be essentially the same as the existing 9800X3D, it will just increase the boost clock to 5.6 GHz.
Analysis: This should be good news for players, one way or another
While we don’t see that 5.6GHz boost in the leaked photo, that doesn’t end the idea that the Ryzen 9850X3D will run at that max clock speed. Please keep in mind that this is an engineering sample currently under testing, so all clockspeeds are likely to reflect this.
If the Ryzen 9850X3D does indeed achieve a 5.6GHz boost, that will make it 400MHz faster than the Ryzen 9800X3D. A recent leak showed that the 9850X3D was 5% faster than the vanilla 9800X3D in PassMark’s single-core and multi-core tests, but that’s not an ideal benchmark for judging a gaming CPU.
The reality is that the extra speed boost will certainly be nice, but probably won’t be a huge improvement – and in any case, the influence of the CPU in gaming scenarios varies greatly from game to game (and also depends on resolution, as the GPU is much more important in high resolutions such as 4K).
Nonetheless, the Ryzen 9800X3D is widely considered the best gaming processor, and so a slightly faster updated take will still be welcomed. The problem is that when (well, I should say if), the Ryzen 9850X3D is coming, it will likely sell for a pretty high MSRP. And if stock is limited to begin with, that price could be further inflated by demand or by price increases, potentially.
That said, any initial clamor will no doubt die down, and there’s another positive to this potential release: namely that a Ryzen 9850X3D would put downward pressure on Ryzen 9800X3D prices, so we can get more enticing deals with this excellent chip next year, as we saw with the 7800X3D before it. Fingers crossed.
Of course, the Ryzen 9850X3D has yet to be confirmed, but it’s looking more and more likely now, and could debut at CES 2026, which would be an obvious platform for this launch.
