The police ask for an allowance in the face of the terrorist wave

PESHAWAR:

As terrorism resurfaces in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial police have requested the government for a special allowance for its personnel, with the cost estimated at around Rs 4.2 billion per month.

The province recorded a total of 1,588 terrorism-related cases in 14 districts in 2025.

The Central Police Office (CPO) forwarded a summary to KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, stating that the provincial government was prioritizing capacity building and welfare of the police in view of terrorism and security challenges.

“Thanks to the government’s targeted efforts and effective administrative measures, not only has the law and order situation improved, but the government’s overall public image has also been strengthened,” the summary said.

He further noted that police personnel receive special financial incentives, including terrorism allowance, in view of the serious risks, operational responsibilities and constant exposure to threats they regularly face.

The summary said the measures were aimed at boosting morale within the force and helping officers carry out their responsibilities with greater confidence.

He adds that the KP Police remain constantly engaged in the fight against terrorists and insurgents, often putting their lives at risk due to their frontline responsibilities.

“The KP Police made countless sacrifices, including the loss of precious lives and serious injuries,” the summary said.

The document argues that police officers’ duties in KP remain extremely risky and expose them to threats of bombings, targeted attacks and other violent activities carried out by extremist elements.

He said the provincial police were carrying out their duties without any additional financial incentives, despite the difficult security environment and the operational nature of their missions, given the continuous high-risk tasks carried out by all cadres of the force.

He demanded that a special allowance, equivalent to basic pay, be given to all ranks of the provincial force.

“The granting of this allocation will not only recognize the extraordinary services and sacrifices of the KP Police, but will significantly improve their morale, efficiency and motivation in conducting critical security operations across the province,” the summary said.

The document said the special allocation would amount to 4.2 billion rupees per month.

Meanwhile, a police report released on Tuesday revealed a worrying increase in terrorist activities in KP in 2025.

According to official data, a total of 1,588 terrorism-related cases were recorded in 14 districts of the province. The report indicates that 7,111 suspects have been named in these cases.

The largest number of accused, 3,437, were named in cases registered only in Bannu.

In terms of districts, North Waziristan recorded 181 incidents, Peshawar reported 163, while DI Khan recorded 152 terrorism-related cases.

The number of named suspects stands at 887 in North Waziristan and 865 in Peshawar, while DI Khan also recorded a significant number of accused.

Police officials confirmed that Bannu remains the worst-affected district, while dangerous terrorist activities also continue in North Waziristan and DI Khan.

The police said law enforcement agencies are continuously carrying out operations to combat terrorism and apprehend those involved, with the aim of ensuring peace and stability across the province.
