American bank EXIM to invest $1.25 billion in Reko Diq project in Pakistan: Natalie Baker

US charge d’affaires says initiative will open new job opportunities in both countries

US Chargé d’Affaires to Pakistan Natalie Baker announced that the US Export-Import Bank (EXIM) will invest $1.25 billion in the Reko Diq mining project in Balochistan, Pakistan, through a bilateral partnership.

In a video statement released on X by the US Embassy in Islamabad, Baker explained that EXIM Bank had recently approved this financial support to the mining and critical minerals sectors under the Reko Diq project.

The funds aim to strengthen collaboration between the two countries in the field of mineral resources, with a focus on high-quality American mining equipment and services.

“We are committed to providing $2 billion worth of industry-leading U.S. mining equipment and services to support the construction and management of the Reko Diq mine over the coming years,” Baker said. She said the project would generate around 6,000 jobs in the US and 7,500 in Balochistan, which would greatly benefit both economies.

“This project will serve as a model for mining, creating employment opportunities for U.S. exporters, as well as local communities and partners in Pakistan, thereby benefiting both countries,” she added.

Baker noted that the Trump administration has made similar agreements a central part of U.S. diplomacy and expressed commitment to new deals between U.S. companies and Pakistan in the mining sector.

The Reko Diq project is considered a key initiative in strengthening economic ties between Pakistan and the United States, particularly in the mining and minerals sectors.

Meanwhile, Baker also met with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States, with discussions covering a wide range of mutual interests.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar highlighted the importance of close relations between Pakistan and the United States, emphasizing the need for continued cooperation on different fronts.

The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and international developments, with a focus on promoting stability and collaboration in areas of common interest.

The meeting reflects the ongoing dialogue between Pakistan and the United States, with both sides committed to strengthening diplomatic relations and tackling global challenges together.
