Author of “Confessions of a Shopaholic” Sophie Kinsella Dies at 55

Sophie Kinsella, the international bestselling author best known for her Confessions of a Shopaholic series, died at the age of 55.

The mother of five battled cancer (glioblastoma) for three years.

Her family confirmed that she died peacefully, surrounded by her husband and five children.

The obituary posted on her Instagram account read: “We are heartbroken to announce the passing this morning of our beloved Sophie (aka Maddy, aka Mom).”

“She died peacefully, her final days filled with her true loves: family, music, warmth, Christmas and joy.”

The statement continued: “We cannot imagine what life would be like without his radiance and love of life.”

“Despite her illness, which she bore with unimaginable courage, Sophie considered herself truly lucky to have such wonderful family and friends and to have enjoyed the extraordinary success of her writing career.”

“She took nothing for granted and was forever grateful for the love she received. We will miss her so much that our hearts break,” the emotional note concluded.

Born Madeleine Sophie Wickham, Kinsella’s fame was her Shopaholic novels.
