Political leaders belonging to the ruling alliance have reacted to the conviction of former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Faiz Hamid, who was sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment by the General Field Court Martial (FGCM).

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, Hamid was tried under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act on four counts related to participation in political activities, violation of the Official Secrecy Act, violation of security and interests of the state, abuse of government authority and resources, and wrongful loss of life.

The ISPR added that Hamid was found guilty on all counts and sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment by the court, promulgated on December 11, 2025.

“Pakistan will reap the rewards of past decisions”

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said the nation will face the consequences of decisions taken under former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa and former spymaster.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Asif wrote: “The country will continue to reap the seeds sown by Faiz Hamid and Gen. [retd] Bajwa for years.

“May God forgive us. May those in power recognize that authority is a divine trust and use it for the welfare of His creation. May the fear of God guide those in power. Ameen.”

“No one is bigger than Pakistan”

Speak separately to PK Press Club NewsSenator Faisal Vawda said the conviction marks “only the beginning”, adding that cases related to May 9 should move forward after that.

Vawda said that if a former senior army officer could be tried in the May 9 cases, “you can imagine the fate of the real perpetrators” involved in the violence.

He said the foundation of a system of accountability and justice had now been laid in the country and stressed that “no one is bigger than Pakistan”.

The senator said the retired lieutenant general caused harm to the country, its institutions, politics and the judiciary through abuse of authority.

“Historic and landmark decision”

Federal Minister of Information, Atta Tarar, addressing PK Press Club Newscalled the verdict a “landmark” and “landmark” decision, saying the decision strengthens the rule of law and accountability mechanisms in Pakistan.

Tarar said red lines had been crossed and political interference had taken place. He said the former ISI chief had acted as a political advisor to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and provided the party with “full political support”.

The information minister said the move would strengthen the country’s rule of law and accountability mechanisms.

He added that the trial had been fair, saying Hamid had been given the full opportunity to defend himself, including the opportunity to present evidence and witnesses in his favor.

Tarar further revealed that investigations into Faiz Hamid’s alleged involvement in political matters were still ongoing and would continue.
