Led by President Nayib Bukele, El Salvador, the first country to make bitcoin legal tender, is now seeking to position itself at the forefront of artificial intelligence, partnering with Elon Musk’s xAI to launch the world’s first national public education system powered by AI.
The government will deploy xAI’s Grok chatbot to more than 5,000 public schools over the next two years to support more than a million students and thousands of teachers, according to an announcement Thursday.
Grok will act as a digital tutor, tailoring lessons to each student’s pace and skill level. The system aligns with El Salvador’s national curriculum and aims to ensure that urban and rural students receive consistent education, xAI said. The project will also produce new AI datasets, frameworks and methods suitable for educational contexts, with a focus on local context, security and human-centered impact, according to the announcement.
“By co-developing this system with El Salvador, we will generate new methodologies, datasets and frameworks to guide responsible use of AI in classrooms around the world,” the statement continued.
President Nayib Bukele, whose administration recently increased the country’s Bitcoin treasury to 7,500 BTC, said El Salvador was “a pioneer in AI-based education.” Musk added: “El Salvador is not waiting for the future of education, it is building it with xAI. »
