President Donald Trump will honor the 1980 United States men’s Olympic hockey team, which defeated the Soviet Union en route to winning a gold medal in Lake Placid during Friday’s signing of the Congressional Gold Medal Act.
The team, made up of players fresh out of college, achieved the “Miracle on Ice” by defeating the Soviets, who were considered the favorites and an international powerhouse for years.
This victory propelled the Americans into the gold medal game, where the Stars and Stripes defeated Finland to win gold.
Mike Eruzione, Jim Craig, Buzz Schneider and the widow and children of the late Herb Brooks are expected to be in attendance.
