- The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain claims Rockstar fired employees for trying to unionize, but Take-Two has denied the accusations.
British Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer said the British Parliament will investigate anti-union allegations against Rockstar Games following the studio’s dismissal on the 31st. Grand Theft Auto 6 developers in October.
As IGN reported, local MP for Rockstar North, Chris Murray, came forward during the December 10 parliamentary session to inform Starmer of the matter, saying: “The video games company Rockstar in my constituency last month made 31 employees redundant without providing evidence or union representation. [Independent Workers Union of Great Britain] The IWGB denounces anti-union acts. After meeting with Rockstar, they failed to reassure me that they respect labor laws and I share my concerns about union busting.
“Given that this Government is responsible for the biggest increase in workers’ rights in a generation,” Murray continued, “does the Prime Minister agree that all businesses, regardless of the amount of their profits, must comply with UK employment law and that all workers have the right to join a union?”
In response, Starmer acknowledged the matter, calling it “deeply concerning”, saying ministers in Parliament would look into the matter.
“This is a deeply concerning matter,” Starmer said. “Every worker has the right to join a union and we are determined to strengthen workers’ rights and ensure that they do not suffer unfair consequences as a result of their union membership. Our ministers will consider the specific case where it [Murray] raise and I will keep him informed. “

MP Chris Murray shared additional information in a follow-up statement to IGN about his attempts to discuss the matter with Rockstar, which included a joint meeting with Edinburgh MPs Tracy Gilbert and Scott Arthur at Rockstar North’s offices, which reportedly began with an impasse over the signing of a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
“The meeting began with us MPs refusing entry unless an NDA was signed, a request they ultimately withdrew after it was made clear it would not be signed,” Murray said.
“The meeting only heightened my concerns about the process Rockstar used to dismiss such a large number of its staff. I was not assured that their process paid significant attention to UK employment law, I was not convinced that this course of action was necessary and, alarmingly, I was not informed of what exactly these 31 people had done to warrant their immediate dismissal.”
Following October’s layoffs, the IWGB claimed that Rockstar terminated the roles to prevent workers from unionizing: “This is the most callous act of anti-union action in the history of the UK games industry… We will not back down and we are not afraid – we will fight to have every member reinstated.”
Bloomberg also reported that the employees were part of a private union chat group on Discord and were all either members of a union or trying to organize within Rockstar.
Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two have denied accusations that it was due to workers’ attempts to unionize, and rather that it involved employees disclosing company secrets, including “confidential information.”
“Last week, we took action against a small number of individuals who were distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum, a violation of our company policies,” the statement said.
“It had nothing to do with people’s rights to join a union or participate in union activities.”
GTA6The delay came shortly after the shots, and the game is now expected to launch on November 19, 2026.
