Karak road tragedy leaves 12 dead

After a catastrophic brake failure, a trailer crushed several vehicles, including a bus, in Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Saturday, killing at least twelve people.

According to Karak Deputy Commissioner, the incident took place on the Indus Highway near Ambiri Kallay chowk. “The incident was caused by a failure of the trailer brakes. The truck, after going out of control, collided with a number of vehicles on the highway,” he explained.

The police feared that the number of victims would increase. Highway rescue and rescue operations were underway and rescue workers were still busy extracting the injured and dead from the bus. According to them, thirteen people were injured in the tragedy.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi took notice of the road accident and requested detailed information. The governor ordered the health department to provide all possible assistance to the injured.

Kundi also asked Red Crescent teams to carry out relief activities and urged PPP workers to participate in the relief efforts in Ambiri Kallay and donate blood.

According to reports, Samiullah, the caravan driver from Lakki Marwat district, was arrested injured. The injured driver is currently being treated in hospital. The main highway was reopened to restore traffic flow.
