- Dell Commercial Laptops and Desktops Will See Significant Price Increases
- Memory and storage upgrades most affected across all business models
- AI-enabled laptops with Nvidia RTX Pro GPUs face substantial price increases
Dell is set to increase prices of its commercial products starting December 17, affecting laptops, desktops, mobile workstations and AI-enabled workstations.
Internal documents reviewed by Business Insider Models revealed with higher RAM or SSD storage will see the biggest increases.
Laptops and desktops with 32GB of memory will cost between $130 and $230, while high-end 128GB configurations could cost an additional $520 to $765.
Memory and storage upgrades see biggest price increases
Laptops with 1TB SSD storage will see their prices increase by $55 to $135.
AI laptops with Nvidia RTX Pro 500 GPUs are also affected, with a 6GB variant increasing by $66 and a 24GB model by $530.
Dell attributes the increase to the global shortage of DRAM and NAND chips: AI demand from hyperscalers has accelerated purchases, leaving fewer components available for enterprise devices.
Analysts predict DRAM prices will rise 30% in the final quarter of 2025, adding to previous gains of 50% throughout the year.
Dell’s internal memo calls the rate of change in memory costs “unprecedented,” noting that it cannot fully absorb increases.
Analysts expect supply chain pressures to persist through 2026, impacting prices for all major workstation makers, including Lenovo and HP.
Dell’s sales division, responsible for 85 percent of its customers’ sales, was tasked with moving quickly to close deals.
The company said, “ordering today for future delivery does not lock in current pricing,” but acting now will help mitigate anticipated increases in memory costs.
“This affects everyone, and there’s no way around it right now, so customers will just have to pay more if they want the products,” said a Dell sales employee.
Sales teams are advised to prioritize large accounts, close deals across multiple quarters, and minimize discounts to maintain profitability.
Even standard business laptops will see cost adjustments, and the company is absorbing some pricing pressure internally through lower margins.
Smaller contracts or additional purchases may be disproportionately affected because bulk discounts are limited.
Monitor and GPU upgrades, while less directly linked to memory shortages, are also part of the price increases, showing a big impact on enterprise IT purchases.
This increase means organizations must carefully weigh their hardware needs, balancing immediate supply and potential future availability.
The reliance on business laptops, mini workstations, and high-performance workstations exposes businesses to market volatility and uncertain technology costs.
