Pakistani CDF Asim Munir visits Libya, discusses security cooperation

Defense cooperation, training and regional security on the menu of discussions between military leaders

Chief of Defense Forces, Marshal Asim Munir, visited Libya on an official trip and met with Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief.

A contingent of the Libyan Armed Forces presented a guard of honor to Marshal Munir upon his arrival.

During the meeting with Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, regional security and ways to strengthen bilateral defense and military cooperation. They stressed the importance of collaboration in training, capacity building and the fight against terrorism.

Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen defense ties with Libya based on common interests.

Marshal Khalifa Haftar praised the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and expressed interest in expanding defense cooperation with Pakistan.

In early December 2025, Field Marshal Asim Munir addressed a guard of honor ceremony in Rawalpindi, highlighting the historical significance of the new Defense Force Headquarters. He described it as a crucial step in the evolution of the military landscape.

He said that in view of growing and changing threats, it is imperative to strengthen multi-domain operations under a unified system of the three armed forces.
