A major attack took place in Boya camp in North Waziristan’s Datta Khel area on Friday when armed militants targeted a security forces camp. According to official sources, the attackers launched the assault by shooting at the post and attempting to breach the perimeter. In the heavy exchange of fire that followed between the militants and security personnel, all five militants (four ground attackers and one car bomber) were killed, while seven security personnel were injured in the clash.
Initial reports indicate that the attackers used an explosive-laden vehicle and suicide vests to breach and attack the camp, with a powerful explosion reported near the scene which damaged shops and buildings, injuring residents. The explosion was reportedly loud enough to be heard from the town of Miranshah, about 25 kilometers away, and thick smoke rose from the site shortly after impact.
According to reports, the conflict lasted three hours until the attackers were killed, but the Boya military camp is still not emptied.
Police, along with security forces and mine clearance units, quickly cordoned off the area and launched a clean-up and search operation to secure the surrounding area. Emergency services 1122 and medical teams were dispatched to assist the injured, who are being treated at local medical facilities.
Officials say that following the attack, district security was placed on high alert and precautionary measures were taken, including temporarily suspending traffic on a key highway. Investigations are underway to determine the exact tactics used by the militants and whether a wider network was involved.
The Aswad-ul-Harab suicide squad, Huzaifa, affiliated with the Hafiz Gul Bahadar group of the Ittihadul Mujahideen Pakistan conglomerate, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Attack on Tank Saddar police station
Militants attempted a drone attack on Mureed Akbar Shaheed police station late last night. The attackers used a quadcopter to hit the daily records room of the police station, seriously injuring the police station clerk and his assistant. The two injured police officers were taken to Tank Civil Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Local police and security forces reported hearing intense gunfire immediately after the explosion. Security teams cordoned off the surrounding area and launched a large-scale search operation as part of ongoing investigations into the incident.
