No negotiations as govt moves on after PTI committee exit

.

ISLAMABAD:

The government has swung into action to contain the parliamentary fallout from the mass resignations of PTI senators from Senate standing committees, activating an emergency plan to keep legislative oversight functioning, it was learned on Friday.

The government also decided not to reopen negotiations with opposition MPs who withdrew earlier this year.

The resignations, made on the instructions of PTI founder Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated, left several committees short of members and without chairmen. PTI senators resigned from all their respective standing committees in protest against the detention of the ex-prime minister and the “disintegration of democratic norms” following the disqualification of PTI lawmakers.

In this context, the government has started to implement “Plan B”, which involves a set of procedural measures to ensure the continuation of the commission’s work despite the absence of PTI members.
