Paul Feig entered the final stages of his latest film ready to face disappointment, never expecting Taylor Swift to say yes to a song he deemed too perfect to approve.
But to his surprise, the pop superstar not only watched the film, he also signed the track he’d been hoping for all along.
Speaking at the red carpet premiere of The cleaning lady On Monday, the four-time Emmy nominee admitted he had little confidence that Swift would allow his 2017 film to be used. Reputation track I did something wrong for the film’s shocking ending.
As Feig explains, getting a Taylor Swift song is never easy.
“Well, that’s the thing: You want to put a Taylor song in your movie, but she and her company have to approve it,” he said when discussing the editing process.
Even with that reality in mind, Feig and his team took a chance.
“So we were tempted, and we were like, ‘This is so perfect, but she’ll never be able to clear this up,'” he added.
The unexpected twist came after Swift and her team saw the completed film.
“Then we showed her and her team the film and she approved of it. So I guess she likes it. Thanks Taylor!”
The approval turned a long-held wish into a defining moment for The cleaning ladywhich is now playing in theaters.
