The Auqaf department of Punjab has allocated over Rs 50 million for the construction and renovation of several shrines and mosques.
The funds include Rs 10 million for the renovation of Dargah Shah Chiragh, Rs 20 million for the Shah Sufair shrine in Sohawa and Rs 10 million for the development works of Jamia Masjid Usmania in Okara.
Additionally, an amount has been allocated for the construction and renovation of Langar Khana and Library at Baba Farid Shrine in Pakpattan under the Annual Development Plan (ADP) 2025-26.
According to officials, the renovation plan of Dargah Shah Chiragh includes removal of old lime plaster from the exterior and carrying out fresco painting work inside the shrine, at an approved cost of Rs 10 million.
Similarly, at Shah Sufair shrine in Sohawa, Jhelum, construction work of boundary walls around the Langar Khana is underway, along with renovation of ablution areas and toilets, at an approved cost of Rs 20 million. The project also includes excavation, grading, dressing and filling around the sanctuary.
Additionally, Rs 10 million has been allocated for the development works of Jamia Masjid Usmania in Okara.
Punjab Auqaf Chief Administrator Ehsan Bhutta said all the projects would be completed soon, providing visitors with suitable facilities while preserving the religious heritage of the province.
