A 75-year-old widow was murdered with an ax on Friday by her son-in-law in the Sroba Chaudhrian district of Rawalpindi. The accused, Muhammad Raza, 45, reportedly suffers from psychological disorders and has a history of violent outbursts at his home.
Muhammad Raza, who is not married and lives alone with his mother-in-law Chandni Bibi, had a small argument with her. The quarrel quickly escalated and Raza hit Chandni Bibi on the head with an axe, inflicting serious injuries, before also attacking her with a knife.
Hearing the commotion, a neighbor, Raqeeban Bibi, rushed to intervene. The accused then attacked her in turn, hitting her on the head with the ax and leaving her seriously injured. Despite her injuries, she managed to raise the alarm, prompting residents to gather at the scene.

Chandni Bibi later succumbed to her injuries. After receiving information, police and rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured Raqeeban Bibi to the hospital for treatment, while the body of Chandni Bibi was taken for post-mortem. Evidence was collected at the scene and Muhammad Raza was taken into custody.
Police sources say the accused suffers from mental illness and frequently argues at home. An investigation was opened following his arrest.
City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani took notice of the incident and ordered that a thorough investigation be conducted, keeping all possible angles in view.
