Wildlife Rangers Punjab rescue sambar deer, arrest hunters, intensify efforts to tackle illegal hunting

LAHORE:

Wildlife Rangers Punjab have intensified their province-wide crackdown on illegal hunting, rescuing protected species and taking legal action against violators in several districts.

Authorities said a female sambar deer that strayed from its natural habitat in Gujarat region was safely rescued during a wildlife operation.

The animal was later shifted to the Joharabad Wildlife Park, where it is receiving proper care and monitoring.

In a separate operation in Rahim Yar Khan, Wildlife Rangers arrested three individuals red-handed for illegally hunting partridges.

The suspects were booked under relevant wildlife protection laws and fined over Rs 150,000 for violating regulations relating to hunting of protected bird species.

Meanwhile, in Layyah district, Wildlife Rangers conducted a raid against illegal hunting activities involving doves and pigeons.

Although two suspects managed to flee the scene, cases have been registered against them and searches are underway to ensure their arrest.

Officials said the recent operations reflect the department’s renewed resolve to combat wildlife crime and protect threatened and protected species across Punjab.
