Most bowl games with no stakes attached are considered boring or pointless. But Pop-Tarts brought fun for the third year in a row. Part of that was due to the unique brilliance of the end zone and sideline art. BYU and Georgia Tech each had their school name in their end zones accompanied by sprinkles. Glitter was also present on the margins and on the helmets of each player.

Pop-Tarts Ring of Honor

Pop-Tarts unveiled its ring of honor at Camping World Stadium, paying homage to the Pop-Tarts eaten in the previous two bowl games. Cookies and Creame, Hot Fudge Sundae and Frosted Wild Berry held commemorative jackets and did their best to honor the Strawberry Cinnamon Rolls.

Pre-match reveal

It wasn’t the Ohio State University group dotting the “I”, but it was still fun. Pop-Tarts held a pre-game ceremony to show the crowd in Orlando, Florida which Pop-Tarts were being featured for the bowl game. There were six Pop-Tarts in total, divided into two teams: Team Sprinkles and Team Swirls. Nuggets included Protein Slammin’ Strawberry, Cookies and Cream, and a Frosted Cherry. The swirls included chocolate chip cookie dough, frosted wild berries, and a frosted hot fudge sundae.

The Cougars led 21-10 early in the fourth quarter and had to dig deep to get the win. A Georgia Tech blocked field goal with 55 seconds left in the third quarter sparked that comeback. Enoch Nawahine and Jovesa Damuni’s touchdowns and a Bachmeier 2-point conversion helped BYU win the game.

Protein Slammin’ Strawberry renounces

The Pop-Tarts Bowl prize was supposed to be a record three pastries going down into a giant toaster for the winning team to enjoy. Protein Slammin’ Strawberry, Cookies, Creame and Cherry were on top of the toaster dancing to the music and awaiting their fate.

Protein Slammin’ Strawberry held a sign that read, “This is not my dream…yet.” The pastry then dove out of the toaster and escaped. A message where the Pop-Tarts pastry should have read: “You haven’t seen the last of me!”

The Cookies and Creme and Cherry Pop-Tarts went into the toaster and were served as giant treats for the champions.
