Jamie Campbell Bower shared that he turned to the darkness of real life while preparing for his role in Stranger things.
The 37-year-old actor said he took inspiration from cult leaders for his character Mr WhatsIt, which appeared in the second volume of the last season.
Jamie explained that Jim Jones was one of his first references and helped shape the way the character spoke and behaved around children.
He said Variety: “Jim Jones was one of my first references.
“He was on the mood board, even in terms of some of the things he says when the kids are all in front of him.
“There have been times when I’ve asked myself, ‘Do I say the word ‘you’ or do I use the word ‘we’? We’re family now.’ It’s really sinister!
“It can totally remove the idea of autonomy, so there definitely had to be that level of cult leader in him.”
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones The star said the role was very scary to play, especially because her character seemed kind on the surface while hiding dark intentions.
He said: “There was so much fear playing this.
“There’s a certain level of dishonesty in there, and it’s really scary. It’s really difficult, especially when dealing with a child.”
Despite the darkness, Jamie believed there was still some humanity inside Vecna and her other forms.
He said: “There’s definitely a humanity that I can see. »
However, the last episode of Stranger Things is scheduled to be released on December 31.
Jamie warned fans that they were probably wrong if they thought they knew how the story would end.
He teased: “If you think you know what’s going to happen, you’re probably wrong. »
