George and Amal Clooney have officially become French citizens, marking a significant new chapter for the couple and their family as they continue to favor a quieter, more private life away from Hollywood.
The news was confirmed by a French government newspaper, which revealed that the Oscar-winning actor and his human rights lawyer wife had been granted citizenship alongside their 8-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella.
The move reflects a change the couple has openly talked about in recent years, especially as they focus on raising their children, away from the pressures of fame.
The Clooneys purchased a sprawling farm for $8.3 million in the south of France in 2021, and it has since become their main family base.
For George, this decision represents a return to a simpler lifestyle that he deeply values.
“We’re very lucky,” he said in a previous interview, explaining that growing up on a farm shaped his own childhood.
“You know, we live on a farm in France. A lot of my childhood was spent on a farm, and when I was a kid I hated the idea. But now for them it’s like they’re not on their iPad. They’re having dinner with adults and having to take their dishes with them. They have a much better life.”
The actor also shared his concerns about raising children in Hollywood.
He admitted he feared his children would grow up under constant surveillance and pressure.
“I felt like they would never have a fair chance in life,” he said, explaining that France offers something different. “They don’t really care about fame.”
Clooney has repeatedly emphasized that privacy was one of the main reasons for this decision.
“I don’t want them to be compared to someone else’s famous children,” he explained, adding that in France, the paparazzi culture around children is almost non-existent.
He also spoke warmly about embracing French culture, saying he enjoys the lifestyle although he jokes that he is still learning the language.
