NA Secretariat requests details on Omar Ayub

ISLAMABAD:

The National Assembly Secretariat on Monday wrote a fourth official letter to opposition leader Amir Dogar, seeking a written response detailing the ongoing trials against former opposition leader Omar Ayub, while the process of appointing a new opposition leader remains unresolved.

The move comes against the backdrop of a prolonged vacancy in the post following the disqualification of Omar Ayub by the Election Commission of Pakistan. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq maintained that the issue of appointing a new opposition leader was “pending”.

According to a statement released by the NA Secretariat spokesperson, previous letters on the same subject were sent on November 19, December 5 and December 19, 2025.

“However, no response has been received so far by the National Assembly Secretariat,” the statement said.

The press release emphasizes that the requested information constitutes a constitutional necessity.

“The provision of this information is essential to fulfill the constitutional requirements relating to the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition.”

He further noted that the NA Secretariat itself had been made a party in some ongoing legal proceedings.

“THE [National Assembly] The Secretariat has been made a party to some ongoing cases involving the former Opposition Leader, making it necessary to obtain the current status of the cases,” the statement said.

The Secretariat said the opposition leader was again asked to submit the relevant details.

“In the letter, the Chief Opposition Whip is requested to provide the required information regarding the current status of the pending legal cases against Omar Ayub, so that the process of appointing the Opposition Leader can be completed.”
