Greer Grammer, daughter of Kelsey Grammer, shared some insight into her relationship with her estranged father.
The actress reconnected with her father at the age of 16 after 12 years of separation.
In a latest podcast episode of Pretty basicTHE Clumsy The star revealed what she considered the “meanest thing” her father said to her after their split.
“[Grammer] has always been my last name. I guess my dad asked my mom – he told me later – but he said, “I told your mom… I said maybe it’s better if you don’t know my last name. It would be easier for you to grow up,” Greer said.
She added: “I think I was 19 when he said that to me and I started sobbing, because to me it was the meanest thing you could say to someone, like… ‘I knew I wasn’t going to be in your life, so I told my mom it would probably be easier for you not to have my last name.'”
However, she admitted the suggestion was “right”, saying her father was “not wrong”.
Elsewhere on the podcast, Greer said the biggest misconception about her was the fact that she didn’t know her father until she was 16. Kelsey separated from Greer’s mother, stylist Barrie Buckner, when Greer was 4 years old.
