- Marvel Zombies“The official launch date has been confirmed by Disney
- The MCU’s first adult animated series will debut on October 3
- The final episode of the Disney Plus series, however, will not be released on Halloween
Disney finally revealed when Marvel Zombies will be released on Disney Plus.
In a Marvel Animation 2025 preview posted on The Walt Disney Company’s website, the launch date for the comic book giant’s first TV-MA animated show has been confirmed to be Friday, October 3. What if…? The spinoff miniseries will arrive in time for the spookiest season of the year, aka Halloween.
Marvel Zombies“The October launch date isn’t a big shock. Last November, Marvel revealed the official release dates and windows for its Disney Plus 2025 lineup, which includes the highly anticipated arrival of Daredevil: Born Again. Among the latter’s sister projects, Marvel Zombies has been confirmed to release on Disney Plus in October, so this latest announcement only narrows its release window to late 2025.
For the uninitiated: Marvel Zombies is a follow-up to What if…? season 1, episode 5, titled “What If…Zombies!?”. This entry, inspired by Marvel’s “Zombies” comic book series, took place in an alternate reality in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – one where, surprise, a zombie outbreak leads to an apocalyptic event that almost wiped out humanity. Marvel Zombies will pick up the story after the end of this episode, which left Earth’s remaining superheroes, including Spider-Man, still searching for a cure. Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Kate Bishop, and Ironheart are confirmed to be among the show’s dwindling roster of superheroes.
Rise from the dead, but not on Halloween itself
Given its TV-MA rating, Marvel Zombies will, according to Brad Winderbaum, the comics titan’s head of television and streaming, be “more hardcore” than previous MCU projects. What better time to release the studio’s first potentially gory series than the scariest time of the year, Halloween?
The Marvel Phase 6 series will arrive before the 2025 spooky season, but it won’t debut on that date, nor will the final chapter of the limited series arrive on October 31. Zombies will be a four-part event, the premiere of which is scheduled for the aforementioned date of October 3. If all four episodes air on launch day, it will debut in its entirety nearly a month before Halloween arrives. Even if Zombies follows the traditional format of the MCU TV series release schedule – that is, new episodes released every week – however, its finale is set to land on one of the world’s top streaming services on October 24.
Equally scary MCU projects, such as Werewolf at night And Agatha throughoutdid not start or end on Halloween. The first mini-TV movie arrived on October 7, while the second WandaVision The spin-off premiered on September 18 and ended on October 30, so Marvel has an earlier form for not launching its horror productions on October 31. Still, I think it’s a little disappointing that Zombies won’t, especially since Halloween falls on a Friday this year. Streaming ZombiesThe finale would have made a terrifically fun appetizer for a spooky party weekend, in my opinion!
