Ella Purnell says fans of To fall will see a shocking new side of Lucy MacLean in season 2.
Talk with Deadline about the episode titled The demon in the snownow streaming on Main videoPurnell revealed that she loved exploring Lucy’s more dangerous side during a drug-fueled sequence that temporarily removes the character’s fear of violence.
“I couldn’t believe it. I felt so outrageous. Coming from any other character, you’d be like, ‘Yeah, it’s just Fallout,’ but being Lucy, it’s outrageous. I couldn’t believe it. It’s like when you’re like a little sister who goes out and gets a little crazy, it’s crazy,” she said.
“It’s a lot of fun to see this side of her, to play this side of her, and also, a new experience for me. I haven’t done a lot of things in my career. I didn’t know how it was going to go. It went well, thank God, I think.”
Lucy’s violent change occurs after she receives a life-saving Buffout steroid infusion following a near-death experience in the previous episode. Under the influence of drugs, his usual moral compass disappears, leading to a deadly – and comical – killing spree.
“But yeah, it’s a lot of fun to play a side of Lucy that’s not afraid of anything for once,” Purnell added. “But playing a character who really doesn’t understand the concept of death for just five minutes of the day… it changes the whole tension of the scene… and I get to play with some comedy in that, it was really fun.”
Purnell also addressed the switch between Lucy and her other role, serial killer Rhiannon Lewis in Sweetpea.
“It’s actually a strange change to make,” she said. “I’m like, ‘Rhiannon would do that in a heartbeat.'”
