Center committed to the development of KP: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said timely completion of federally funded development projects in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and resolution of public issues were among the top priorities of the incumbent government. He said the federal government was "fully conscious" problems faced by the people of KP and takes concrete measures within the limits of its competence to ensure lasting solutions. The Prime Minister expressed these views during a meeting with political representatives of KP, the media wing of the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement. During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the overall political situation in the province and the problems faced by the public. Issues related to public welfare, development projects and governance were also discussed. The meeting was attended by DPM/FM Ishaq Dar, Minister of Information Attaullah Tarar, Minister of Law Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister Amir Muqam, Advisor to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah, Captain (retd) Safdar, MPs Babar Nawaz and Samar Bilour, Ikhtiar Wali (Coordinator of the Prime Minister), former Vice President Murtaza Javed. Abbasi, former senator Zahid Khan, MP Ibadullah, Pir Sabir Shah, former MP Sardar Mushtaq, former MP Shah Jee Gul Afridi, Shahabuddin Khan, Rehmat Salam Khattak and Behramand Tangi. Meeting participants said the provincial government had "completely failed" because of "bad governance". The provincial government had no clear policies on health, education, infrastructure or public welfare and it paid no attention to solving public problems, they said. The Prime Minister urged public representatives to give priority to solving public problems, adding that some time ago he had distributed laptops, on merit, to KP male and female students in Haripur. He also expressed his pleasure in meeting the youth, describing them as the future asset of Pakistan. He stressed that the merit-based laptop distribution policy would continue to help them play their rightful role in the development of the country. Regarding the federal government-sponsored uplift projects in KP, the Prime Minister announced the formation of a committee headed by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. The committee would visit Peshawar and, in coordination with public representatives, review the progress of these projects.
