The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police on Sunday foiled a major terrorist operation by neutralizing eight terrorists during joint operations of the police and the Anti-Terrorism Department (CTD) in different parts of the province.

The operations were carried out in the tribal districts of Bannu, Khyber and Zahir Garhi, a suburban area of Peshawar, the capital of KP. Police claimed to have eliminated eight terrorists involved in attacks on security forces, besides recovering a huge cache of weapons and other equipment.

According to the Central Police Office (CPO), two terrorists were killed during an operation carried out by the local police and the CTD of the Bannu region.

The CPO identified the slain militants as the attackers of Sheikh Lindak and Fatah Khel police stations. He added that the terrorists were also linked to attacks on security forces and an attack on a relief building under construction in the city.

Weapons and mobile phones were recovered from the deceased terrorists, the CPO confirmed.

Meanwhile, CTD Khyber killed three terrorists during an operation in Khyber, the CPO confirmed, adding that the operation, carried out near Shah Kas Bypass Road, successfully foiled a major terrorist plot.

He added that the militants were preparing to attack police personnel. Three Kalashnikov rifles were recovered from the deceased terrorists.

Another operation was carried out in Zahir Garhi, a suburb of Peshawar, during which CTD personnel neutralized three terrorists.

The CTD spokesperson said other associates of the militants managed to flee and a search and strike operation is underway to trace them.

Two Kalashnikov rifles, a pistol and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists, the spokesperson added.

KP Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed congratulated the police and CTD personnel for their courage and successful operations. He said targeted operations would continue to maintain public order.

Terrorist attacks have seen a sharp increase in Pakistan, particularly in the border provinces of KP and Balochistan, since 2021 when the Afghan Taliban regime came to power.

Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said in a statement dated November 25, 2025 that 67,023 Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) were carried out across Pakistan – mainly in KP and Balochistan – during the current year as part of counter-terrorism efforts.

He said as many as 1,873 terrorists, including 136 Afghan nationals, were killed in 12,857 ICPs in KP and 53,309 in Balochistan this year till November 2025.

Pakistan has repeatedly called on the Afghan Taliban regime in Kabul to prevent its soil from being used by terrorists against Pakistan, and this issue has recently led to heightened tensions, including cross-border attacks from the Afghan side, also leading to retaliation by Pakistani forces.
