- Ubisoft announces layoffs at Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm
- The company said 55 jobs would be affected
- The Division franchise will remain a priority for Ubisoft
Ubisoft today announced job cuts that will affect 55 positions across its businesses. The division studio, Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm as part of the company’s ongoing cost-cutting efforts.
“Earlier today, we informed all employees at our Swedish studios (Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm) of a proposed organizational restructuring that could affect approximately 55 positions in Malmö and Stockholm,” Ubisoft told IGN in a statement.
It is also understood that the job cuts follow a previous voluntary redundancy plan which did not result in as many departures as Ubisoft deemed necessary for its plans.
“This restructuring follows the completion of the voluntary furlough program launched in autumn 2025, a finalized long-term roadmap and a completed staffing and appointment process, which together have provided clearer visibility into the structure and capacity required to support the work of both studios and sustainably over time.
“These proposed changes are prospective and structural, they are linked neither to individual performance, nor to recent deliveries, nor to the quality of work produced by the teams.”
Development on The division the franchise will remain a priority for Ubisoft, as work on the next iteration of the series, The Division 3continues, with updates on Division 2 and the game Survivors extraction mode.
“The studios’ long-term direction remains unchanged and we will continue to serve as the global home and leader for The Division franchise, moving forward with an innovative and unannounced technology project with a refined team setup, and playing a central role in the development of Snowdrop and Ubisoft Connect,” the statement continued.
“The proposed restructuring will begin by focusing on individual agreements and affected employees will be directly informed and supported with care and respect, in accordance with local regulations.”
Massive Entertainment, the developer behind Star Wars Outlaws And Avatar: Pandora’s Bordersis also currently working on an unannounced project. It is not yet clear which roles will be assigned at either studio.
The latest layoffs follow the elimination of 71 jobs at Ubisoft Halifax, the company’s mobile games studio, as well as 60 jobs at fellow European developer RedLynx in October, all part of Ubisoft’s cost-cutting program launched three years ago.
