Mike Tannenbaum may be biased, but he has confidence in the New York Jets.

Tannenbaum’s “33rd Team” helped the Jets, where Tannenbaum was general manager from 2006 to 2012, determine that Aaron Glenn would be their head coach before the 2025 season.

However, the season was one to forget, as they went 3-14 and became the first team to not record an interception for an entire season. They have also lost each of their last five games by at least 23 points, another first in the NFL.

Glenn remains employed by the Jets despite the availability of Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh, Kevin Stefanski and many others. The Jets could take the easy route and show some experience in what is a project that has gotten off to a rough start, but Tannenbaum seemed to believe he wanted the Jets to trust the process.

“It was great to be part of the search a year ago. It was a great experience. And I think Aaron Glenn will be a very good coach in the long run,” Tannenbaum told PK Press Club Digital in a recent interview. “I’m obviously not part of the organization, so it wouldn’t be fair for me to comment on what they should or shouldn’t, but I have a lot of faith in Aaron Glenn and I think he’ll be a good coach in the long run.

“One of the things I think they deserve is they clearly have a long-term plan, without a doubt, in terms of picks, draft capital, and I think Aaron Glenn and (general manager) Darren Mougey will continue to execute the plan, and I hope you see the results quickly in 2026.”

Of course, that’s tough for Jets fans to hear, as their playoff drought now lasts 15 straight seasons, the longest in the Big Four professional leagues. But Tannenbaum thinks it’s “an exciting time” to be a Jets fan.

“The foundation of a good offensive line is there, which is, I could tell you personally, being there, working with two teams (also the Miami Dolphins), it’s very difficult to put together the type of young talent that they have on the offensive line. They have a true No. 1 receiver in Garrett Wilson. I think Mason Taylor is going to be a very good tight end. We’ll see what happens with Breece Hall, but, you know, there’s a lot of very good building blocks.’” Tannenbaum says.

“And of course you’d like to win more games in year one, but at the end of the day we have some of the base there, and you have the number of draft picks, the salary cap space. If you try to take year one, learn from it, take that base and improve it, I think we’re all hopeful that we’ll see a better product on the field next year. I’m sure they’re going to make a lot of changes to the roster. That will be evident in March when the free referee begins.”
