The National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Rawalpindi, has been entrusted to conduct the National Registration Examination (NRE) to ensure credibility, integrity and transparency, according to a press release issued on Thursday.
The NRE for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMG) is a mandatory requirement under an Act of Parliament and aims to promote transparency, standardization and quality of medical and dental education, as well as professional practice in Pakistan.
The NRE is a two-stage examination conducted at least twice a year, in accordance with the approved NRE standards, structure and syllabus. NUMS has been conducting the exam for the past two years and is responsible for preparing the paper, compiling and declaring the final results.
According to the press release, the exam is conducted on a syllabus equivalent to MBBS and BDS syllabi in Pakistan. He said that the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has no direct role in preparing documents, conducting examinations or preparing NRE results.
