- Arc Raiders Design lead Virgil Watkins says Embark Studios is happy with the current endgame loop, but would like to “step up” the PvE experience
- According to him, “continuing to intensify, that’s where we plan to expand next.”
- The developer also touched on the Giant Arcs in the background, but couldn’t say if there are plans to add them as killable bosses.
Embark Studios plans to evolve Arc Raiders‘ end-of-game loop by intensifying PvE (player versus environment).
This was stated by Arc Raiders design lead Virgil Watkins in a recent interview with GamesRadar+, who discussed the current endgame scenario of killing queens and matriarchs to farm weapons that kill them better.
Watkins explained that while the team is “pretty happy” with the current state, “I don’t think we can survive with this forever.”
“I think ultimately, if we introduce yet another giant six-legged spider robot, it’ll be kind of like, ‘Okay, we’ve got it,’” Watkins said. “So yeah, I think it’s about where we could take these types of experiences in the future to something else or something more, seeing how we can improve the player experience on the PvE side.”
Watkins added that Embark has noticed how players have become “sophisticated in their approach” to destroying drones and believes that “continuing to escalate is where we plan to expand next.”
Speaking about these gigantic Arcs that players can see in the background, which some players have nicknamed “The Emperor”, Embark said that he currently has no plans to present them as killable bosses, because he fears the servers could explode. Right now it looks like a technical hurdle, but it would definitely be cool to tackle one.
“We want to go where it’s convenient for us, or where it seems fun, but then you start to run into the practical side: Is this going to blow up the server? Can it even support that kind of thing?” » Watkins said.
“Our ambitions are definitely big, and I’m not going to say you’re going to meet one anytime soon, but obviously you see the giants walking in the background and all that.”
